Seagrass Identification Workshop (2023)
Seagrass Identification Workshop (2023)
Associate Professor Shang-Yin Vanson Liu held the Seagrass Identification Workshop on December 1st with support from the Department of Marine Biotechnology and Resources, National Science and Technology Council, and Marine National Park Headquarters. With the help of Visiting Scholar Dr. John Kuo (Senior Honorary Research Fellow, The University of Western Australia) the workshop gave a broader view of the classification, evolution, and distribution of seagrasses during the morning session and with a hands-on session of seagrass morphology and anatomy in the afternoon. Participants included professors and researchers from the National Taiwan Ocean University, National Dong Hwa University, National Taitung University, National Sun Yat-sen University, and the Fisheries Research Institute. The workshop also attracted local and international students from National Sun Yat-sen University and Chinese Culture University. Additionally, staff from a local environmental consulting company in Kaohsiung and the National Marine Park Headquarters also joined the workshop. We hope that through this workshop, more focus will be put on seagrass and benefit the conservation and restoration of seagrass in Taiwan in future.
