Features of the Master's Program

The department's research priorities are as follows:

Fundamental marine ecosystem research exploring the status of living and nonliving marine resources;

Marine biodiversity and environments;

Active development and utilization of marine natural products;

Research and application of marine biotechnology;

Effects of various pollution sources on ecosystems and evaluation of their impact on biological resources.

The master's program in this department began in 1991.

The program was established to cultivate professional talent in the field of marine technology, fulfilling the future needs of academia, industry and the government.

Each year, 33 students are admitted to the program, including 20 students via recommendation and screening-based admission.) ※According to the current admissions guide.


Research orientation is divided into three groups:

Group A: Marine Technology and Physiology

Areas of research include: marine microorganisms, marine biotechnology, physiology of marine organisms, prevention of marine pollution, etc.

Test subject: biochemistry


Group B: Marine Resources

Areas of research include: all kinds of marine life, ecology and resources, such as biostatistics, biological oceanography, aquatic ecotoxicology, biodiversity, marine ranching and aquaculture, algal biomass energy applications and geology, mineral resources, and so on.

Test subject: general biology


Group C: Marine Chemical Resources

Areas of research include: marine natural product chemistry (refinement and synthesis of natural medicines), marine environmental chemistry, and aquatic biochemistry.
