The Department of Marine Biotechnology and Resources offers three kinds of degree programs: Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Doctorate degrees. The undergraduate program trains students from basic sciences to advanced technologies regarding to marine resources for reserving and managing the resources to be used sustainably. The curriculums focus mainly on biotechnology, marine biology, natural products, and chemistry, integrating with sciences related to invertebrates, planktons, physiology and physical and geological oceanography. Besides the lecture classes, the Department greatly emphasizes laboratory skill. There are 16 laboratory courses to cover biology, chemistry and some oceanography areas, to bridge both theories and applications. Expectedly, students can familiarize many operation procedures of the instruments for their advancing careers.

    The Department has established the graduate programs of MS and Doctorate for incubating specialists in marine biotechnology and natural products, as well as a breadth of marine resources, who currently serve in the academic, industrial, and governmental organizations. The graduate programs are at large divided into four groups:

(1) Marine Biotechnology Division develops the applications of marine microbiology, biotechnology, neuroendocrinology, physiology, and bioreactor design;

(2) Marine Ecology Division studies planktons, marine primary productivity assessment, aquaculture, ichthyology, aquatic ecotoxicology, and physiological ecology.

(3) Physical and Geological Oceanography Division is involved in internal waves, marine fluid mechanics, marine geology and mineralogy, metamorphism and hydrothermal alteration of oceanic crust;

(4) Marine Nature Products and Chemistry Devision investigates chemistry of natural products, organic synthesis methods, marine organic chemistry, environmental chemistry, water quality analysis, instrumental analysis, chemical structures and bio-activity.
