Departmental Educational Objectives

To cultivate high-level professionals with expertise in applying modern biotechnology to the development, conservation, and management of marine resources.

Core Competencies of Students

Course Requirements

 

  1. General Education Courses: A total of 28 credits (excluding the 4 credits for Sports and Health).
  2. General Education Course Selection: Must follow the university's general education curriculum structure and selection rules.
  3. Professional Required Courses:
    • 44 credits in department core courses.
    • 4 credits in college core courses.
    • At least 40 credits in department electives.
  4. College Core Courses:
    • Introduction to Marine Science (2 credits, first semester of freshman year).
    • Applied Marine Science (2 credits, second semester of freshman year).
    • Students may substitute Marine Law / Introduction to Marine Policy (choose one), Biotechnology, and Fundamentals of Environmental Science for Applied Marine Science.
  5. International Students & Hong Kong/Macau Students:
    • Students whose high school education is equivalent to Taiwan’s second-year high school level must complete an additional 12 credits to meet graduation requirements.
  6. Independent Research Requirement:
    • Students must complete Special Research I or Special Research II before enrolling in Graduation Thesis.
  7. English-Taught Courses:
    • All required courses must be taken in English, while elective courses have no language restrictions.
Additional Graduation Requirement

Students must fulfill at least one of the following "International or Interdisciplinary Learning" criteria

(Applicable from 109 Academic Year):

  1. International Learning:
    • Study abroad for at least one semester, OR
    • Complete at least 2 credits from an overseas program approved by the department, OR
    • Participate in an international learning program (at least 36 hours).
  2. Interdisciplinary Learning:
    • Complete a minor, double major, education program, university interdisciplinary micro-program, integrated program (including personalized programs), or interdepartmental professional program.
